Habitat for Humanity of Taos places families and individuals in homes by focusing on those in need of safe, affordable housing. Through a partnership model, Habitat selects applicants based on their needs, ability to pay an affordable mortgage, and willingness to contribute “sweat equity” by helping build their home and volunteering in other ways. Once selected, future homeowners work alongside Habitat staff and volunteers to construct their homes, and in return, they receive an affordable mortgage, making homeownership achievable for those who otherwise might not have the opportunity.
